Bonchon Chicken is a South Korean-based international fried chicken franchise restaurant. Bonchon is a Korean word meaning "My Hometown"

So today i had the opportunity to visit a Korean fried-chicken restaurant known as Bonchon. It is known purely for its fried chicken but also other traditional Korean dishes or international dishes with a Korean touch. From the very first moment i arrived i was welcomed with 'open arms' and to me that really did represent the hospitality of Koreans as they're very friendly and welcoming. I was greeted by the manager Norman who assisted me with anything that i needed and along side him was Ksir who was my waiter for the day.

To begin with i was left with my mother to get comfortable and familiar with the environment which was good because usually when you go to restaurants, not long after you are seated you're hassled about what you're going to order. After about 5/10 minutes we were ready to order to which Norman came with the menu, to my surprise the menu was a tablet, which was brilliant but it also made me realise how technology is evolving rapidly, Furthermore it made me think of Korea as it is/one of the top countries to be up to date on technology. Before i ordered my food, Norman was kind enough to give me a briefing of the food and gave me some knowledge on the food Korea is known for and also suggested to me some of their best sellers in which i should try.

For myself i chose to have the Bonchon chicken drumsticks, you can also order either wings, both wings and drumsticks, boneless chicken or chicken fillets. They had 2 flavours either Hot&Spicy or Soy&Garlic flavour, i decided to have Half&Half which in my opinion is brilliant as i got to taste both flavours to decide which one i liked, although my waiter Ksir pointed out to me that the Hot&Spicy flavour was VERY Spicy and to be honest i should of known Koreans LOVE their spice haha. I decided to be a wimp and asked if i could have the Hot&Spicy chicken with only Medium level of spice. My mother decided to order the Chicken Wrap with Fries and i also went with some of the dishes Norman had suggested to me to try which was the Crispy Salmon Avocado Salad and the Cajun Chicken Rolls.

Whilst i was waiting for my food to be cooked, Ksir was kind enough to give a free starter as seen above which were some sort of crisp which were i think deep fried? and a nice sweet but chilli sauce, this was a nice and light appetiser whilst waiting for our food. Me and my mother also ordered Peach Ice Teas for our beverages, which to my surprise was told that they were refillable !! what can be more better than fried chicken and refillable ice tea!!

The first dish that arrived to the table was the Crispy Salmon Avocado Salad, it was shaped like a dome and inside was Avocado,Cucumber and Crab Meat and was covered in sauce and garnished with some greens, the presentation as you can see was really unique and well thought about, yet at the same time simple and straight to the point. All combinations in this salad complimented each other, for me i don't eat salad but i surely would eat this salad again!!

Next to come were the Cajun Chicken Rolls, i was told by Norman that the sauce that comes with this dish is specially imported from Korea, which is why it is a MUST to try out. The presentation was again simple but very thought out and just looked lovely to the eye, this is particularly good as a starter as you can eat them in one bite without feeling full up before your main meal arrives.

After a few minutes my mothers main meal was the first to come out, which was the Chicken Wrap, the presentation was very unique as it wasn't on a plate but on a wooden board to which in each corner had 'Bonchon' engraved, along side it came crinkle cut fries and ketchup. My mother thought it was really nice and really enjoyed it, and added she will be looking forward to coming back again lol.

Moments later my chicken had arrived, in advance may i apologise as i was so excited to get stuck in and eat my chicken that i forgot to take a photo at the restaurant, clearly i was just mesmerised by its beauty haha!! it was presented in a long dish, to which one side had 6 pieces of chicken, then in the middle a dish of salad  and then on the other side the other 6 pieces of chicken. To know which one was spicy they added a little flag in which read 'i love Bonchon' which i thought was very cute. The Soy&Garlic flavour was an absolute favourite of mine, when you think soy and garlic you'd imagine the taste is very salty and not appealing, however it was the complete opposite as it had a lovely sweet flavour to it. The Hot & Spicy flavour however was SPICYYYYYY!!!! and i had it changed to a medium level of spice which is the lowest, so i can't even imagine how spicy it is normally. Once i got over the spiciness, and my throbbing lips and tongue lol it was actually really nice, it wasn't one of those spicy flavours that put you off eating your food it was more of an addictive spiciness as it had a lot of flavour. Additionally what i absolutely LOVED was that my chicken came with a pair of metal tongs to pick up my chicken with and a little bucket to put my bones in when i was finished, i thought that was brilliant.

Overall, my experience at Bonchon was top class and from the moment i arrived to the moment i left i was treated very special and was delivered with the best service and hospitality. Bonchon has 2 restaurant locations in Bahrain, one in Juffair Mall and the other at Seef Mall in Muharraq, which was the one i visited. The thing i loved about the branch in Seef Mall was that it had a very homely and cosy feeling, and i certainly cannot wait to go back, Inshallah. All details of Bonchon will be listed at the end of this post so please do take the time to check them out!

Id like to say Thank You to Michelle for arranging this review, but most importantly to Norman, for giving me this opportunity and for providing me with an amazing experience in which I've never experienced before, this experience has made me full in love with Korea even more and one day i hope i get the chance to travel there. I can confidently say i will be returning to Bonchon very soon !!

Id also like to say a very big Thank You to Ksir, he was such good hearted person with a lovely personality full of respect. The service he gave me today was top class and i really do wish him the best in his career at Bonchon and in life, i can definitely say he made the experience worth while.

To answer Bonchons question 'Are you addicted yet?' YES I AMMMMMM !!!!!

Stay Tuned for a vlog on my experience at Bonchon !! :D
